The role
Sirius Minerals is offering an eight-week undergraduate opportunity to work within the project development team of its US$2.9 billion multi-discipline engineering, procurement and construction Project. Reporting into the senior process engineer the role will work on a modelling project to support the process engineers.
Key responsibilities
Sirius Minerals is looking for a suitable candidate to develop a thermal model to simulate the temperature profile along its granular product export conveyor network, which will link the Materials Handling Facility (MHF) and port. The conveyor belt system will transfer POLY4 granules from the rotary dryers to the port storage facility via fully enclosed gantry style conveyors.
- Review available company and relevant public domain information
- Complete a gap analysis
- Carry out measurements of the thermal properties of specific materials
- Develop an initial heat model to simulate the heat transfer and temperature profiles along the conveyor network
- Establish ventilation requirements to maintain acceptable operating temperatures within the conveyor gantry
- Make recommendations for future improvements to the heat model
Skills, experience and attributes
- Currently undertaking or completed a related engineering degree or equivalent qualification
- Ability to work within a team and prioritise to deadlines
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the desire to succeed
